Ramasamy should keep quiet, he himself betrayed DAP - Wan Rosdy

Former Penang deputy chief minister P Ramasamy would be better off keeping quiet rather than making statements that could mislead the people, said Umno vice-president Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

The Pahang menteri besar said Ramasamy was not qualified to talk about political betrayals because he himself left DAP and established a new party after being dropped as a candidate.

“I was compelled to critique Ramasamy’s statement on the issue of betrayal within parties as voiced by Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki yesterday.

“After examining the statement, I am of the view that Ramasamy is better off keeping quiet and enjoying retirement rather than commenting on the issue of betrayal because he betrayed his party when he announced his exit from DAP on Aug 10, 2023.

“His actions were made after he was not listed as a candidate in the Penang state election last year.

“After that, he announced the establishment of a new party, the United People’s Party of Malaysia (Urimai) on Nov 27, 2023,” Wan Rosdy said in a media statement last night.

‘Same DNA’

Ramasamy had slammed Asyraf, who claimed Bersatu was “born out of betrayal”.

He reminded Asyraf that PKR, which is Umno’s new ally, was also “born from the same DNA”.

“Umno is not a noble party to talk about betrayal,” he said.

He added that if Asyraf believes Bersatu deserves to be betrayed by its elected representatives, there must be something wrong with Umno.

Commenting further, Wan Rosdy said the people can judge for themselves who Ramasamy is.

“He is issuing misleading statements to the people simply to gain cheap popularity for his own benefit.

“He should realise that Umno’s cooperation with Pakatan Harapan, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and other parties is to create stability in this country, as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong decreed after GE15,” added Wan Rosdy.

‘Marginalise MCA and MIC’

In an immediate response, Ramasamy lamented that the biggest betrayal of Umno is none other than the complete marginalisation of MCA and MIC’s political roles in the BN coalition.

He said the coalition today exists only in name, whereas Umno has taken over or reduced the role of the coalition to nothing.

"MCA and MIC that stood thick and thin with Umno have been completely swept aside. Isn’t this one of the greatest betrayals of Umno?"

Ramasamy added that the "traitor" label coming from a member of the "most tainted party" in the country is an honour to him.

"How come Umno, who condemned and ridiculed the DAP over decades as the number one enemy of Malays and Islam, is suddenly a good political buddy of the DAP?

"Wan Rosdy calling me a traitor is as big an honour as when the former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad called me a racist," he said in a statement today.

He added that Umno’s performance is like how the candle flares up just before it is extinguished forever.

"It would be near impossible for Umno to become the champions of the Malay race. PAS and Bersatu have come to fulfil the role that Umno had once," Ramasamy said.
