Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyperson Lee Kee Hiong passed away due to cancer earlier today, according to sources close to the DAP leader.

She was 58.

It was reported that Lee was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2020 and had been battling the disease for the past several years.

She was on her third term as the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat representative, after retaining the seat during the 2023 Selangor polls.

A DAP spokesperson said the party is preparing a statement on her death.

Condolences

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari described Lee's passing as a great loss, especially for Kuala Kubu Baharu residents.

He said she had assisted the people in her constituency for many years even before becoming an assemblyperson.

"On behalf of the Selangor state government, I wish to express our condolences to her family, friends and members of DAP for their loss," he said in a statement.

Earlier, the Dewan Rakyat also heard about Lee's death when DAP Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong expressed his condolences.

According to several Chinese dailies, Lee's funeral will be held at the Nirvana Center Kuala Lumpur.

It is understood that Lee's death will trigger a by-election, as her seat had fallen vacant less than a year after the last state election.
