King meets KK Mart founder, gives final warning to all not to incite rakyat

Vijay47: Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, I hope that the significance of the Royal invitation to KK Mart founder Chai Kee Kan is not lost on you.

It was Chai whom His Majesty, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, chose to meet and not some politician whose only claim to fame is that people of similar backgrounds support him.

While the king did refer to both sides of the situation, the unsaid message is that he sympathises with Chai and all the abuse and threats he was subjected to.

The only support the KK Mart owner received all along was from the common man. In a way, the meeting perhaps also reflects intense royal disappointment with those elected to lead and minions appointed to enforce.

I can understand Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s silence on the issue. He is busy trying to decide the kind of rice his cabinet must eat -one of the core functions of any prime minister.

Unless he has plans to visit the Middle East again, I hope he can “rice” to the occasion soon.

Meanwhile, Akmal, have you now planned another boycott?

One can also suggest that the leader in this unity government was unable to undertake the particular action, all because Umno is part of the unity government and tugging on Anwar to resist.

And if not, it can only be that Anwar is a weak leader, who does not practise what he has preached since 1998.

Whatever it is, it is real kudos to the ling, grabbing the bull by the horns and pouring cold water to a stoked fire to resolve this dangerous and delicate (to the nation) issue on behalf of our so-called "unity" government.

Beman: The one inciting the rakyat and trying to drag on the issue is certainly not Chai. In fact, Chai would have wanted the issue not to be dragged on, as he had already apologised as soon as he could at the start of the incident.

I am certain Chai is not the one who wants such an incident to happen, unless he wants to destroy his own business.

Can we assume that there will be no more calls for a boycott against KK Mart and no more firebombs hurled at its stores from now on? Will the instigators be summoned to the palace or arrested if they continue to drag on the issue?

Rupert16: Anwar should call Akmal and KK Mart's boss for a meeting.

He should tell off the KK Mart boss for his and the company’s sloppiness or carelessness in allowing such a situation to happen and that he has to face the music with respect to our country’s laws.

As for Akmal, he should be admonished for exploiting the situation for his own political agenda, and if he continues to incite hatred, he will be arrested and dealt with under our country’s sedition act.

Shame that Anwar did not dare to speak out and give a final warning to Akmal, the merchant of hate, like Agong did.

Or are you more concerned about being in power, is that more important hence the reluctance to spook Umno boys and prompt them to leave the unity government?

Our only hope is for East Malaysia to do the right thing and speak up against this racial and religious extremism.

Apanama is back: What happens to the vigilantes, the Molotov bombers, instigators and provocateurs? One should not keep on victimising the victim. How many times does he need to apologise?

This is the wrong way while others are scot-free. This is wrong.

If in the coming days, another petrol bomb is thrown, does he need to apologise, say, to the PM? Next? Apologise to every state sultan to stop it?

YellowKitten4425: If I am KK Chai, I must be feeling like this charade is not going to end. After apologising and taking all the necessary actions for something that is purely unintentional, the barrage continues to come.

First, it was the blame for hurting the sensitivities of a religion, then it was the boycott, court charges followed and then suspected arson on three of the outlets.

Now if that is not enough, he had to meet with our beloved king. What's next?

All this while, the man responsible for sparking the incitement escaped scot-free.

WhiteMoose0037: My sympathy goes to KK Mart. They just want to do business and saw their fortune from going listing to downhill because of an incident not of their making.

They were victim to the ultra-political system capitalised by an upstart who does not care about the wellbeing of the employees and businesses of KK Mart.

This will take time to recover.
