'Macam-macam lah' - Perlis MB when quizzed on MACC probe

After a nine-hour grilling session with MACC, Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli appeared to be none the wiser under what section he is being investigated.

Quizzed on the case he was summoned over, he replied: “Macam-macam lah (all sorts of cases).”

As to the section he is being investigated under, he said: “I am not sure.”

Shukri, who was met outside the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, also said the commission would not call him again.

Earlier, Malaysiakini reported that MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed that Shukri was “detained” despite PAS claiming otherwise.

He said the politician was released on MACC bail after his statement was recorded in connection with an alleged abuse of power case.

It is understood that Shukri was being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 over the allegations of abuse of power in the implementation of infrastructure projects throughout Perlis since 2022, including its restoration, maintenance, supply, and services.

A source said Shukri was detained at about 11 am today when he came to the MACC headquarters to have his statement recorded and was only released eight hours later.

Last week, MACC arrested Shukri’s son and five others to assist in an investigation linked to the submission of false documents and claims involving RM600,000 over the past two years.

The case relating to document forgery to make false claims is being investigated after a project involving maintenance, repair, supply, and service works from 2022 until now, was not carried out.

Azam today confirmed that one of the cases being investigated included an alleged false claim for a supply of beverages for the raja of Perlis during the monarch’s stay at a hospital in the state.

Last week, Shukri described his son’s arrest as a “test” that he needed to endure.

“If my son is found guilty, then by all means punish him, as I have imparted knowledge and education (to him),” he said.
