Cops probing alleged assault of disabled man by Johor regent's escort

The police have opened an investigation paper into the allegation that a bodyguard of a royalty had assaulted a disabled man in Kuala Lumpur.

Bukit Aman CID chief Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the alleged victim, an e-hailing driver, lodged a police report yesterday.

“So far, no arrests have been made.

“The police are investigating it under Section 323 of the Penal Code,” he told a press conference.

Shuhaily was asked to comment on a viral social media message alleging that Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s bodyguard had assaulted the man at a hotel.

Section 323 involves voluntarily causing hurt. Punishment includes imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with a fine which may extend to RM2,000, or both.

The incident was said to have occurred at a hotel in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.

It was alleged that the bodyguard had assaulted the 46-year-old man and instructed him to move his vehicle away from the lobby of a five-star hotel located not far from KL Sentral, where he was waiting for passengers.

The victim, who is hearing-impaired, then sought treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur before lodging a police report.

English daily The Sun reported that the police confiscated the victim’s phone and dashcam to assist in the investigation.

Underworld operatives charged

In a separate development, Shuhaily revealed that 20 individuals linked to an underworld group known as “TR” were charged this morning.

He said 18 of them were previously detained under Section 4(5) of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 for 28 days.

He claimed that the group, which has been active in Selangor since 2019, were involved in drug trafficking, murder, and extortion.

The suspects were among 21 individuals detained on May 3 in an operation codenamed “Ops Lima”.

According to Shuhaily, 20 of them will be charged today under Section 130V of the Penal Code for being members of an organised crime syndicate.

However, one of them cannot be charged yet because he is still undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute.

“Police are still tracking down the remaining members of the group. We believe that about 10 of them are still at large,” he added.
