The Kuala Lumpur High Court denied Rosmah Mansor’s application to bring in the police and federal government as third parties in a RM67.46 million lawsuit against her by Lebanese jewellery firm Global Royalty Trading SAL.

Judge Ong Chee Kwan today dismissed the third-party application by the wife of incarcerated former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

She wanted to make the police and government reimburse her or be held liable if Global Royalty won the civil action against her.

Rosmah’s counsel Reza Rahim confirmed with the media about the outcome of the online chamber matter earlier this morning.

“The court did not allow our application to make the police and government third parties to the suit on the basis that the police and government are prima facie, not joint tortfeasors, and owe no duty of indemnity to Rosmah.

“However, Rosmah is free to file a fresh civil suit for any losses which may have been suffered as a result of the actions of the police and government of Malaysia separately.

“Consequently, the court fixed Aug 2 as a further case management date and June 2-6, 2025 as trial dates for the matter.

“We have been instructed to file an appeal against the decision today to the Court of Appeal,” the lawyer said.

Lawsuit to recover jewellery

In April last year, Global Royalty refiled the RM67.46 million civil action against Rosmah over the allegation that the jewellery was sent to the defendant for viewing purposes.

In 2019, the firm filed a suit for 44 pieces of jewellery worth US$14.79 million (almost RM60 million) but withdrew it later, with the firm having secured the return of one of the items.

The present civil action is only over 43 jewellery pieces, as the Malaysian authorities have returned one of the pieces to Global Royalty.

In mid-2018, following the 14th general election, the police raided the Pavilion condominium in Kuala Lumpur where Najib and Rosmah were residing and took away several items which included a jewellery piece from the Lebanese firm.
