Zayn Rayyan's father decries 'slander, betrayal' as remand order extended
The father of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin Zaim Ikhwan, the boy believed to have been killed in Damansara, Selangor last December has decried “slander” and “betrayal”, over his and his wife’s remand to facilitate an investigation into the case.

The father of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin Zaim Ikhwan, the boy believed to have been killed in Damansara, Selangor last December has decried “slander” and “betrayal”, over his and his wife’s remand to facilitate an investigation into the case.
This morning, the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court extended the remand of Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf by six days until next Wednesday (June 12).
The duo, both 28, were arrested on May 31 and remanded for seven days. They are investigated for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
“This is all slander,” Zaim told reporters, as he was brought into the courtroom in handcuffs.
His counsel Fahmi Abdul Moin said police initially sought a remand extension of another seven days but magistrate Ainaa Muhammad Kamal granted six days, the News Straits Times reported.
Fahmi also confirmed he was appointed the couple’s lawyer today, after another lawyer representing the duo withdrew himself from the case.
‘Real murderer still out there’
Outside the courtroom, the couple’s family members gathered with banners calling for “justice for Zaim and Isma”.
A woman who identified herself as Zaim’s mother yelled out: “Umi (Mother) knows you are in the right. This is all slander!”
“The real murderer is still out there,” she reportedly said.
Earlier police also seized the couple’s mobile phone and questioned Zayn’s babysitter.
A post-mortem of the boy’s body found that he had injuries on his neck and body.
His body was found by a stream some 200m from his home at Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai.
His mother told reporters that she was climbing up the stairs to their third-floor apartment with Zayn at about 12.30pm on last Dec 5 when she noticed the boy was not with her.
She said they tried searching for him, before informing her husband and local residents.
She also said other children living at the apartments said they saw her son walk into a bushy area near the building.
