Jais tells S'gor mosques to stop inviting celebrity preacher for now

The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) has ordered all mosques and worship houses in the state to refrain from inviting preacher Don Daniyal Don Biyajid.

In a statement today, Jais confirmed that it has issued a notice on the matter on June 21.

According to the department, it made the decision following several issues that arose regarding some of the contents Don cited in his teaching, which they suspect were in violation of the state rules for religious teachers.

“The Selangor ruler has stressed to all holders of tauliah (permit for religious teachers) that it is important for Muslims in Selangor to be given accurate knowledge about Islam, which must be based on authentic sources according to Islamic education discipline.

“Thus, Jais has to stop any statement or view about Islamic laws that are not based on authentic sources before such matters become widespread in Selangor,” it said.

Don recently courted controversy when he allegedly cited unverified information and gave confusing answers when preaching Islam.

In one of the cases, Don claimed that a woman called Ummu Hani was Prophet Muhammad’s first love and that he had asked for her hands on three occasions.

He also reportedly made a questionable claim during a RTM programme called Salam Baitullah, where the preacher spoke about the benefits of staring at the face of an ulama (religious scholar). The information he cited allegedly originated from a fabricated hadith.

Following the incident, the national TV network decided to take him off the programme.

In Jais’ statement, the religious authority said Don also has to submit a written explanation to the Selangor Islamic Council about the controversial content in his ceramah.
