Siti Nurhaliza, husband fined RM10k each over tahnik ceremony

Singer Siti Nurhaliza and her husband Khalid Mohamad Jiwa have both been compounded RM10,000 each for failing to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs) during a tahnik ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.

Tahnik is an Islamic ceremony to celebrate and welcome a newborn.

Selangor police chief Arjunaidi Mohamed said the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of religious affairs Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, preachers Azhar Idrus, Don Daniyal and Iqbal Zain were all fined RM2,000 per person.

Arjunaidi said Norman Hakim and Abby Abadi were also compounded.

Siti and her husband had held a tahnik ceremony for their second child in late April, which was heavily criticised by netizens for supposed double standards in the enforcement of rules to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

There had also been discontent about some of the guests who were invited, as they are not based in Kuala Lumpur and there is an interstate travel ban in effect.

Terengganu-based Azhar had since said he was at his mother-in-law’s house, which was nearby Siti and Khalid’s house when he accepted Khalid’s invitation.

He also had at least two speaking engagements in the Klang Valley on April 25 and 26.
