Psy-war begins

12.45pm: As the campaigning for the Sungai Bakap state constituency heats up, psychological warfare is being employed.

Malaysiakini observed the government party machinery claiming that there is dissatisfaction brewing in PAS, pertaining to the choice of Abidin Ismail as the candidate for Perikatan Nasional.

Among the claims include that Abidin is not PN's initial choice for the contest, but was merely chosen due to his advantage of being a local.

‘Campaign professionally’

12.20pm: Simpang Ampat, Nibong Tebal - Pakatan Harapan election director for the Sungai Bakap by-election Mohamad Abdul Hamid urges all quarters to refrain from carrying out acts of sabotage to candidates' campaign materials in the polls.

He also urges the competing parties to campaign professionally, without provoking each other.

"We are not accusing anyone, but it (act of sabotage) did not come from us. So we say, just stop it, and just campaign and compete in a professional manner," Mohamad was quoted telling Bernama on the campaign trail in Simpang Ampat in Nibong Tebal last night.

Yesterday, the Penang PKR Youth lodged a police report over alleged sabotage of Harapan candidate Joohari Ariffin's campaign materials, including banners and party flags.

Its chief Muhammad Fadzli Roslan claimed that a total of 38 banners and 53 flags put up around the area were taken down by irresponsible parties, with some of them found thrown inside drains.

‘Abah’ set to campaign

8am: Sungai Bakap, Nibong Tebal - Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin is set to make an appearance in Sungai Bakap today as part of Perikatan Nasional’s election campaign rally.

The PN chairperson will accompany the coalition’s candidate Abidin Ismail on two campaign trails including a high-tea session and political rally later at night.

Apart from Muhyiddin, Gerakan president Dominic Lau and PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad will also be part of the coalition’s troops tomorrow.
