BN’s electoral cooperation with Pakatan Harapan will continue in the 16th general election (GE16), said coalition chief Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He indicated that one key element will be avoiding seat clashes.

“God willing, in the next general election, we (BN) will use the BN symbol. But this doesn’t mean we are running away from our alliance in the unity government.

“Meaning, Harapan can use their own symbol, and we will use ours, but we will be working together.

“As long as our constituencies are not contested by them, and we don’t contest where they are contesting,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama today.

It is unclear, however, whether this is an arrangement that both sides have agreed to.

Harapan and BN set aside their rivalry to form the government together following the 15th general election a year and seven months ago.

Previously, there had been talk that the cooperation would continue until the next general election is called, but the question of whether they will work together in GE16 remains uncertain.

In March, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said his party had not decided on the matter.

The two coalitions also teamed up during the six state elections last year, where BN mostly performed poorly except in Negeri Sembilan.

BN suffered total wipeouts in Kedah and Terengganu.

The two have also been supporting each other during by-elections, including the current Sungai Bakap polls.
