Cops question Hishamuddin Rais over blog post linked to PM

Political activist Hishamuddin Rais was questioned by the police for more than two hours today over his blog post that raised questions about Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s health.

Lawyers for Liberty director Zaid Malek, who accompanied Hishamuddin (above) at the Brickfields police station in Kuala Lumpur, said the post published on April 25 was originally written by former MP Tamrin Ghafar.

“He (Hishamuddin) arrived at the police station at 3.30pm.

“He was then brought to his home where they (authorities) wanted to seize his computer but then decided against it.

“That was until around 5pm. Then they recorded his statement (at the police station) which ended a little before 7pm,” Zaid told Malaysiakini.

“It’s actually a post where he put up what Tamrin wrote about Anwar’s health,” the lawyer added.

Earlier today, former PKR vice-president Tian Chua shared a photograph of police personnel and MCMC officers at Hishamuddin’s house, saying they checked his computer hard drive.

Asked what prompted the investigation against Hishamuddin, Zaid said, “internal report”.

In the blog post republished by Hishamuddin, Tamrin, son of former deputy prime minister Ghafar Baba, said he was called to the Bukit Aman police headquarters on April 30 over another article he wrote, which was also related to Anwar.
