Harapan-BN grassroots cooperation still subpar: Mujahid

Amanah deputy president Mujahid Yusof Rawa has cited divisions between Pakatan Harapan and BN voters, and their limited cooperation at the grassroots level as reasons for the governing party’s failure in the recent Sungai Bakap by-election.

While an agreement was reached to form a government, he said it has not been conveyed effectively at the grassroots level of both parties.

“Although the Madani government enjoys stability in terms of majority support, voter sentiment remains divided among Perikatan Nasional, BN, Harapan, and an unpredictable youth demographic.

“At the grassroots, there are still internal challenges, including those among the government’s own component parties, contributing to ongoing inefficiencies.

“Although there is cooperation among their leaders at the top level, this situation particularly hampers Harapan-BN collaboration,” he said in a statement today.

Last Saturday, PN successfully defended its seat in the Sungai Bakap by-election, with Abidin Ismail securing victory with 14,489 votes, defeating Harapan’s Joohari Ariffin.

Preliminary analysis indicates PN’s vote share rose from 52.7 percent in the previous state election to 58.6 percent in this by-election, while Harapan’s fell from 47.3 percent to 41.4 percent.

Don’t point fingers

Mujahid said that significant disparities between Harapan and BN exist at state and division levels in achieving the true political objectives of their agreement.

“Efforts to realise the agreement’s true intent must take priority, as they could sway future by-election outcomes, potentially solidifying the incumbent’s advantage if grassroots consensus remains elusive.

“Blame games over voting outcomes will not address these issues,” he concluded.
