Papagomo released after court denies remand extension request

Blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, known as Papagomo, has been released after the police’s remand request was denied by the court today.

This comes less than 24 hours after his detention by cops from Bukit Aman after attending a sedition trial at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex in Kuala Lumpur yesterday afternoon.

According to his lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, his client was released from the Dang Wangi remand centre at about noon.

“The police applied for four days of remand. The investigating officer informed the court that the investigation was being conducted under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948. The police report against Papagomo was in regard to a TikTok video that touched on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“The defence objected to the remand request. After listening to both sides, the magistrate denied the remand request, saying there was no concrete reason to remand (Azri),” Rafique told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Yesterday, Wan Azri (above) was reportedly detained after attending the second day of his sedition trial involving an allegation that the government is pro-Israel and pro-West.

In addition, the pro-Perikatan Nasional activist also faces another sedition charge over his social media post on the controversy regarding socks with the word Allah.
