Akmal hitting 'wrong punching bag' over ex-Bersatu 6: PKR Youth leader
A PKR Youth leader has slammed Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh over the latter's continuous attack on Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul's decision over the six former Bersatu MPs.

A PKR Youth leader has slammed Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh over the latter's continuous attack on Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul's decision on the six former Bersatu MPs.
According to PKR Youth communication director Haziq Azfar Ishak, Akmal (above) has been hitting the "wrong punching bag', when he should be directing his wrath toward Bersatu instead.
"It's clear that the speaker's decision is based on the loopholes in the anti-hopping law due to Bersatu not including provisions to vacate seats for elected representatives who violate the party's instructions in the 2022 Federal Constitution amendments.
"The speaker's decision is based on provisions of Article 49A(1) of the Federal Constitution, which only allows for a seat to be vacated when an elected representative leaves his/her voluntarily, and not when he/she is let go for violating party instructions," Haziq said in a statement today.
"This (decision on ex-Bersatu 6) is not something to be proud of, but blaming the speaker is a persecution of the institution, which only carried out duties according to existing laws," he added.
He was responding to Akmal's criticisms of Johari's decision on the six former Bersatu MPs who voiced support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Akmal, who is also Merlimau assemblyperson, said the decision would benefit political "frogs", and make the rakyat suffer.
Haziq also praised Anwar for the latter's willingness to make legal amendments to plug any loopholes in the anti-party hopping law.
"Till today, we have yet to see the Umno Youth chief criticise the 'real offender' Bersatu, who had made a mockery of the federal level anti-hopping law."
It is worth noting that on July 14, PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim denied there were internal issues between his party’s youth wing and that of Umno.
According to the deputy youth and sports minister, differences of opinion were normal in politics.

Article 49A also says the MPs lose their seats if they cease to be members of the party. He conveniently chose to ignore that section. Why cease to be is between party and member not anyone else’s business. Selective narrow reading often results in half-baked conclusions like Haziq’s. Sigh.
