'Campaign ban' - Lokman mulls legal action over slander in false statement

Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam has hinted at possible legal action against individuals accused of slandering him on social media.

Specifically, Lokman (above) referred to a false statement attributed to BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi which named him as one of four individuals supposedly banned from campaigning in the upcoming Nenggiri by-election.

“I am looking for the names, IC numbers, full addresses and phone numbers of the people sharing this slander so I can sue (them).

“Everyone involved in distributing this slanderous material, I will consider suing. I am checking their backgrounds one by one,” he told Malaysiakini.

Earlier today, an Umno headquarters staff member shared the statement allegedly attributed to Zahid, who is party president.

The statement marked palsu (fake) also named Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli and two others.

Among those who shared the statement included blogger Salim Iskandar who posed the question, “Apa ni?” (What is this?)

Taking to X, an aide to Rafizi, Farhan Iqbal, took a swipe at Salim.

“Simply sharing slander just for engagement and likes.

“My advice is to fact-check first,” he chided.

Among others, the statement claimed Zahid said the four individuals were banned from campaigning for Umno’s candidate in Nenggiri as they had triggered negative public reactions, which contributed to BN-Pakatan Harapan’s recent loss in the Sungai Bakap by-election.
