Rubber tapper tells court he 'tidak sengaja' raped teen daughter

A rubber tapper charged with two counts of raping and grooming his 14-year-old daughter had hoped to be granted bail on a bizarre excuse.

The father of three told the Kota Bahru Sessions Court in Kelantan that he “did not do it on purpose” or that “it was an accident”.

“Saya tidak sengaja rogol anak,” the the 44-year-old accused was quoted as stating.

For the first offence, the rubber tapper was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 30 years and 10 strokes of the rotan.

The second charge was under Section 15(C) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (2017), which carries a maximum prison term of 10 years or a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or both.

According to the charge sheet, both offences took place at the accused’s house in Kuala Krai.

The accused, who was unrepresented, claimed trial to both charges and requested to be granted bail.

However, deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad objected.

Following this, the court decided not to grant bail and fixed Aug 28 for case mention.
