The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has labelled as NFA (no further action) an investigation paper (IP) over a rape allegation against celebrity preacher Ebit Lew.

Lew’s counsel Akberdin Abdul Kader informed the media about the decision this afternoon.

“The police have completed the rape investigation against Lew (above) on Sept 14 last year and the decision of the DPP (deputy public prosecutor from AGC) is not to continue with the case as there was no case.

“Therefore, Lew will not be charged (in court) as there was no case and the case items, namely Lew’s handphone and SIM card, were returned yesterday.

“As Lew’s lawyer, I was informed myself by the police yesterday,” Akberdin said.

The counsel added that the Shah Alam Sessions Court has set July 1 for damage assessment in Lew’s defamation civil suit against the social media influencer who raised the allegation

In October last year, The Star reported the police had referred two IPs linked to the case to AGC.

One IP was over an Indonesian influencer’s allegation of inappropriate behaviour by Lew while the other IP was over the preacher’s report that rubbished the claim.

The police investigated the influencer’s report under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, while Lew’s report was probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for online content that is obscene, indecent, false, menacing or offensive with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass another person.

The preacher’s report was also being probed under Section 500 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation.

Lew is currently on trial in a separate court case where he faces 11 counts of outraging the modesty of a woman through WhatsApp messages.
