Reviewing Gerakan-PN cooperation not on agenda, says PAS veep

PAS has no plans to review its cooperation with Gerakan as it’s not on the Islamist party’s agenda, said its vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

The PAS leader pointed out that Gerakan’s relationship with other Perikatan Nasional component parties has also not been affected and continues on.

Samsuri (above) said internal affairs matters will be resolved properly and will not involve outside parties.

"The relationship with Gerakan so far has not caused any (problems). (It's going on) as usual. We didn't even discuss in internal meetings to take other steps.

"So far no agenda has arisen to be discussed. There has been no meeting yet," he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian today.

The issue is more about the internal affairs of the respective political parties, he added.

"What is happening is within our family, let us resolve it within the family," the Terengganu menteri besar added.

Govt needs to be firm

The two alliance partners have been at loggerheads over the role of brewery companies in facilitating fundraising events for Chinese schools.

Before that, they also clashed over the gambling ban issue in Kedah.

Samsuri urged the government to be firm and not bow to any party over the brewery fundraising issue.

"The government needs to return to the existing policies that the ministry has been practising for decades.

"Other countries like Australia have the same policy. For young children we need to emphasise this so that they understand what is good and bad," he said.
