Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is prepared to extend Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo’s leave to allow him sufficient time to complete his ankle treatment and fully recover.

“Jagdeep’s family regularly updates me on his condition. He is in recovery and continues to receive medical attention. After Aug 5, I will meet them to discuss the situation.

“I also reported Jagdeep’s situation to the state executive council during yesterday’s meeting.

“If an extension is needed, I hope to receive a formal request so we can approve it for as long as necessary until he can resume his duties,” Chow (above, left) said at a press conference at his office in the Komtar building today.

On July 22, Bernama reported that Jagdeep (above, right) confirmed he was on leave for ankle treatment and denied claims he was instructed to take leave from his administrative duties.

Jagdeep, 53, who is also the Datok Keramat assemblyperson, has served as deputy chief minister II of Penang since August 2023.

Earlier at the press conference, Chow announced Sept 21 and 22 as the dates for the Penang2030 Festival to be held at the iconic Komtar building.

The inaugural event aligns with the Penang2030 vision and aims to attract 5,000 visitors.
