Nenggiri polls: 'Rizwadi contesting under PAS logo correct move'

NENGGIRI BY-ELECTION | The Perikatan Nasional candidate contesting under the PAS logo is the correct move and in line with the coalition’s leadership criteria, said its chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin.

Taking to Facebook, he urged voters to come out en masse to support Bersatu’s Mohd Rizwadi Ismail.

“This morning, we had the nomination for the Nenggiri by-election. Alhamdulillah, PN put forward a confident local young man as our candidate.

“The decision for him to contest under the PAS logo took into consideration the criteria set by the PN leadership.

"I give my full support to him and call on all Nenggiri voters to come out en masse on voting day to elect Rizwadi as your representative,” he said.

Rizwadi, a retired Royal Malaysian Navy personnel, is the former Gua Musang PAS deputy youth chief.

Muhyiddin said that, as a former soldier, he believed Rizwadi had high discipline and a commendable personality.

“These are important qualities for serving the people,” added the Bersatu president.

According to Kelantan Menteri Besar Mohd Nassuruddin Daud, Rizwadi has joined Bersatu but will contest the seat under the PAS logo.

Rizwadi, 41, is facing a straight fight against BN’s Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani.

Over 20k eligible voters

The Nenggiri by-election is being called after the Kelantan assembly speaker was informed that its representative, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, had ceased to be a member of Bersatu on June 13.

Azizi, also the Gua Musang MP, was among the seven elected representatives dismissed from Bersatu for supporting the coalition government.

In the Kelantan state election last August, Azizi defeated BN’s candidate Ab Aziz Yussof with a majority of 810 votes.

The Nenggiri seat has been contested since 2004, during the 11th general election, with BN winning four times.

According to the electoral roll, as of June 18, 20,259 individuals are eligible to vote in the by-election, comprising 20,245 ordinary voters and 14 police officers.
