Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has called on the people to pray for rain, which he said can solve the issue of low water levels at the state dams.
According to him, rivers in the state are still flowing despite the dry spell and thus not affecting Kedah's agricultural activities.
"The low water levels are only at the dams, while rivers are still flowing. We wait for Allah to bring down the rain, we pray to Allah for this.
"When it rains, insya-Allah our dams will be filled again. If you are asking about solutions, there are things that only Allah can do and not humans.
"For paddy planting activities, water has been released to paddy fields so this (dry spell) would not affect the crops," he told reporters when met in Gua Musang earlier today.
Not about logging
Three days ago, Sanusi refuted allegations that logging activities caused low water levels at Kedah dams.
Instead, the water levels were receding due to the ongoing dry spell, besides the simultaneous release of water supply for agriculture, domestic and industrial uses, he explained.
"There is no logging in the 72,000ha (of the Ulu Muda Forest Reserve). Outside (the water catchment area), there was previous approval (for logging) according to the Forestry Department’s quota of 4,200ha per year throughout Kedah," he was quoted as saying by Bernama on Aug 1.

Data from the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada) website on Aug 1 indicated that the Muda Dam is at 8 percent capacity, Pedu Dam (39.09 percent) and Ahning Dam (81.80 percent), with an average of 43.68 percent capacity for all three dams.
Mada also said that a three-day cloud seeding operation beginning last Monday managed to record 2mm of rain in the Muda Dam catchment area.
