Chow extends Jagdeep's sick leave until Aug 9

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has announced that Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo’s sick leave has been extended until Aug 9.

In a brief statement today, Chow (above, left) said that Jagdeep had updated him on his health condition on Friday (Aug 2).

"Last Friday, Jagdeep gave me the latest information about his sick leave.

"He informed me that he is now in good condition, and on the doctor's advice, he has applied for his leave to be extended until Aug 9.

"Therefore, I have agreed that his leave be extended to that date to enable him to continue the necessary treatment," said Chow.

Last week, Chow had indicated that he was prepared to extend the leave to allow Jagdeep sufficient time to complete his ankle treatment and fully recover.

“Jagdeep’s family regularly updates me on his condition. He is in recovery and continues to receive medical attention," said Chow who said that he had also reported Jagdeep’s situation to the state executive council during a meeting last week.

Ankle treatment

On July 22, Bernama reported that Jagdeep confirmed he was on leave for ankle treatment and denied claims he was instructed to take leave from his administrative duties.

Jagdeep, 53, who is also the Datok Keramat assemblyperson, has served as deputy chief minister II of Penang since August 2023.

Chow also dismissed speculations that Jagdeep would be removed from his role.

“As for the speculation about him being replaced, the matter has never been discussed," he said.
