Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd is prepared to corporate with Anti Corruption Agency (ACA) officials in the probe launched against the company.

Contacted today, Kelantan Works, Infrastructure and Environment Department chairperson Amizam Abdul Rahman said Air Kelantan will provide its full cooperation to the ACA.

"If they (ACA) want to investigate, let them investigate. We are ready to work with them. We will also provide any files or documents that they require in the course of their investigation," he added.

Malay daily Berita Harian reported today that ACA has launched an investigation against Air Kelantan following complaints that the company had mismanaged RM600 million allocated for infrastructure upgrading.

It was reported that the state owned company did not follow specifications in choosing materials used in the upgrading works of old pipelines and water reservoirs in the PAS-controlled state.

According to the daily, an ACA team which was sent to Kelantan to check on the matter decided that there was a need for a detailed investigation.

Water shortage

Quoting a source, the daily said the agency has already commenced its investigations and will not hesitate to even dig out the pipes in order to get to the bottom of the matter.

In June, Berita Harian highlighted the complaints of residents in Machang that the newly built RM65 million Merbau Chondong water reservoir failed to solve the problem of water shortage in the area.

Two reserve tanks of the reservoir had failed to supply water to nearby residential areas and schools.

The Merbau Chondong water reservoir is one of the components in the RM600 million project which took flight in 2001.

The project involves the changing of old pipes and building new water reservoirs in seven districts.

Funds for the project, which was granted to Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd, were channeled from the state government through the Finance Ministry.

Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd is owned by the Kelantan state government and is headed by Chief Minister and PAS president Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.
