'Two versus one, no problem,' Wan Fayhsal tells Rafizi, Fahmi on debate

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said he is ready to take on two government ministers in a public debate.

Taking to X today, Wan Fayhsal said he was still waiting for a reply from Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil regarding a debate challenge he proposed last Friday (Aug 9).

“Two versus one is not a problem!” the Machang MP posted on X today.

“After the debate on Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), Global Infrastructure Partners and Blackrock, I am ready to debate one-on-one with Rafizi on issues on monetary policy, fractional reserve banking, petrodollar and helicopter money.”

This came despite Rafizi agreeing to engage in a debate with Wan Fayhsal on the same day the challenge was issued.

In the post published on X on Aug 9, the Bersatu MP invited Rafizi to a live debate, as opposed to a podcast session suggested by the latter on the highly controversial MAHB deal.

In response, Rafizi said they should first debate on “how to stimulate the economy by printing money”.

This is an evident jibe at Wan Fayhsal’s suggestion in 2020 to help the people by forgiving debts and "printing money".

While pointing out that a live debate might be costly, the PKR minister said he was willing to discuss with RTM, Astro and other channels to host the debate “for the sake of Malaysia’s economy”.

During a BFM radio interview in 2020, Wan Fayhsal proposed a “helicopter money” policy “where the central bank can directly print money and give it to the people so that they can spend it”.

Wan Fayhsal was serving as the deputy youth and sports minister under Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration at that time.
