'Wan Fayhsal's boycott call of govt's Palestine rally hypocritical'

Pakatan Harapan Youth has slammed Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal for urging a boycott of the government’s Palestine solidarity rally tonight.

The wing’s information chief Ammar Attan said this put Wan Fayhsal’s “kemunafikan” (hypocrisy) on display.

“This action shows his clear kemunafikan when calling for a boycott of Palestinian solidarity just because of political differences,” Amar (above) said in a statement today.

The word munafik in Islam refers to religious hypocrites, specifically those who only pretend to be Muslim.

Wan Fayhsal yesterday took to social media urging pro-Palestine supporters to boycott the government’s solidarity rally at the Bukit Jalil stadium.

The Machang MP argued it was hypocritical for the government to show solidarity with Palestine when it was continuing with the sale of Malaysia Airport Berhad Holdings shares to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP).

This is as GIP will soon be owned by Blackrock - a major investor in Israel's military.

The government has argued that it can’t cut all business deals with Israel-affiliated companies without hurting the economy.

In the message from Qatar, Wan Fayhsal said it would be better to attend the solidarity rally organised by NGOs, referring to the demonstration in Bukit Bintang last night.

Wan Fayhsal was in Qatar to attend the funeral of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

‘Sectarian, extremist thinking’

Without responding to Wan Fayhsal’s argument, Ammar said the Bersatu leader’s boycott call was close-minded and promoted factionalism.

“As a person who upholds humanitarian principles and advocates for the liberation of Palestine, it is inappropriate for him to be narrow-minded and exhibit sectarian behaviour on this issue. 

“He seems to believe that only his struggle is right and the efforts of others, including the government, are wrong.

“Is this the form of sectarian or extremist thinking that he is trying to promote?” Ammar questioned. 

The Palestine solidarity rally was called following Ismail's death, which is being blamed on Israel.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is among those who will be attending the rally tonight.
