Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid lodged a police report today against those who claimed she was fighting to change the national religion.
The DAP lawmaker said in a statement that social media users also accused her of attacking Islamic institutions, especially the Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
“These claims are clearly extreme slander spread by irresponsible parties with the intent to create a negative perception of me, my party, and the Madani government among the public, especially the Malay community.
“In the same post, there is also an individual who falsely claimed that a leader of the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM), Rashid Maidin, is my father, when in fact, my late father, Abdul Rashid Hanafi, was a school teacher who just passed away in early June,” she said.
In a post uploaded to TikTok on July 22, Syerleena was pictured with a purported quote by her on changing the national religion to Christianity and her purported vow to attack Islamic institutions, particularly Jakim.
As of 9.30pm today, the TikTok video had accumulated 715,000 views and over 15,000 likes.

The video also contained an AI-generated voiceover which claimed Syerleena intended to sow discord among people for her personal gain.
In a video Syerleena posted on Facebook today, she said this particular post first surfaced in 2017.
She also called the police to take swift action against the TikTok user who uploaded the post and the commenter who claimed she was the daughter of a CPM leader.
In her statement, she urged Muslims to cease being afraid of DAP.
“As a Muslim MP, I remain committed to upholding the sanctity of Islam and will defend its institutions in this country if they are threatened.
“Moreover, the DAP leadership has also emphasised that the party will continue to respect and adhere to the Federal Constitution concerning the position of Islam, the Malay rulers, and the Malay language,” she said.
Besides that, she lodged a police report over the vandalism of the Bukit Bendera MP service centre.
