Muhyiddin: Don't question my loyalty to constitutional monarchy

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has again rebuffed allegations that he had insulted the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong after being questioned by police over the matter.

In a statement issued after he was grilled by police, Muhyiddin affirmed that he was a loyal subject.

“As an ordinary citizen, I take shelter under the greatness and nobility of the Malay rulers and my loyalty to the institution of constitutional monarchy should not be questioned,” he said.

He reiterated that his speech in Nenggiri about not being invited to form the government in 2022 was completely factual and not insulting.

Instead, he claimed that certain quarters had manipulated his speech and the video of it to give the impression that he was insulting Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

During his speech at Felda Perasu in Kelantan on Aug 14, Muhyiddin claimed he had the support of 115 MPs to form a government but was thwarted by Sultan Abdullah.

He added that despite having enough votes to become prime minister, he was unsure why Sultan Abdullah did not invite him to the palace to be sworn in.

“It’s not that I want to bring up the past, but it is recorded history.

“But I don’t know how… the Agong back then didn’t invite me to the palace to get sworn in. Who was the previous Agong? It’s (from) Pahang lah,” Muhyiddin had said.

Hopes for fair probe

His remarks had angered Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah who accused the PN chief of belittling the sultan and incited people to lose faith in the Malay rulers and the royal institution.

Muhyiddin in his statement today, hoped that the investigation against him will be thorough, transparent, and fair as required by the law.

He also furnished police with 115 statutory declarations (SDs) - including his own - from November 2022 backing him as prime minister then.

The Pagoh MP also submitted a letter from Sultan Abdullah's private secretary affirming the receipt of the SDs.
