Muhyiddin meets cops to record statement over speech

Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin arrived at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) building in Kuala Lumpur this morning to give his statement to the police.

The former prime minister arrived at about 10.30am and waved to reporters before walking into the building.

Also present were Gerakan president Dominic Lau, Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) leader SP Punithan, PAS MP Ahmad Yunus Hairi, Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, vice-president Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, Selangor chief Azmin Ali, Youth chief Wan Ahmad Faysal Wan Kamal, and Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.

Muhyiddin, who is Bersatu president, is being investigated over a recent speech regarding the appointment of the prime minister after the last general election which ruffled the feathers of the Pahang royal household.

His team then informed the media that Muhyiddin’s statement was recorded around 11am and concluded an hour later.

Although the media had been waiting since morning, Muhyiddin declined to speak to reporters afterwards.

Instead, his team distributed a statement from the Bersatu president and a copy of his statutory declaration to the palace, dated Nov 21, 2022.

In the statement, Muhyiddin reiterated that he did not insult Pahang ruler Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, who was the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and that his remarks were factual.
