FT Mufti's Office to summon 'Raja Bomoh' - minister

The Federal Territories Mufti’s Office would summon Ibrahim Mat Zin, popularly known as Raja Bomoh, for allegedly conducting a ritual at Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur.

“Ibrahim’s actions have caused public distress and misunderstanding about Islam among the community.

“I have requested the Federal Territories Mufti’s Office to summon Ibrahim soon to advise him on matters of faith to ensure no one gets involved in rituals that would bring disrepute to Islam,” Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said in a statement today.

Yesterday, Ibrahim said he wanted to use his “expertise” to locate Indian national Vijayaletchumy, 48, who fell into an eight-metre-deep sinkhole a week ago.

However, he lamented that the authorities had yet to allow him to enter the site.

“I want to help but not allowed in. I want to help our Fire and Rescue Department, police and others.

“Once the news came out (about the mishap), I prayed for three days. So, now I’m here to just drop (an amulet) this thing…it’s okay even if the police drop it so that the person who fell down would float back up,” he was reported as saying.

Ibrahim had also sprinkled a “special water” yesterday, claiming it was sourced from a waterfall in Perak.

On that note, Na’im reminded the public that Ibrahim had pleaded guilty at the Federal Territories Syariah Court in 2017 for insulting Islam.

“The court had also instructed the individual to undergo faith-related counselling, under the observation of the Federal Territories Mufti’s Office.

“Therefore, I urge Muslims to not get influenced by any activities or rituals that go against Islamic principles,” he added.

Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa assured the public that Kuala Lumpur is still safe despite a series of sinkholes appearing.

“InsyaAllah, it’s still safe but as I said earlier, we have to be very careful at the area where we have the sinkholes,” she told the media after a sinkhole inspection at Jalan Permai, Kampung Kerinchi in Kuala Lumpur.
