A PAS leader has defended carrying a Louis Vuitton (LV) handbag after she came under fire for claiming that some Malaysians were dying of hunger from a shortage of local rice under the Madani administration.

The party’s Malacca women’s wing information chief Hawa Yaakub took to X to justify the matter after a parody page posted a picture of her carrying the luxury bag and said that she had “offered to sell the bag to help affected Malaysians”.

In the post, Hawa fired at pro-government supporters, asking how long they would “answer” all issues with LV-related replies.

“Diesel price hike - LV, people dying of hunger - LV, local rice shortage - LV, Blackrock - LV, afterparty - LV, Tiger beer - LV.

“Please find other ideas. At least make your allowances worthwhile,” she tweeted.

Hawa (above, right) also alluded that an LV bag is not more expensive than a helicopter and a Bentley.

She was referring to BN leaders’ helicopter rides to Nenggiri during the recent by-election and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s travel in a Bentley car provided by the Sarawak government during a recent visit to the state.

‘Not bought with taxpayers money’

Yesterday, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli rubbished Hawa’s allegation that people are dying of hunger because there isn’t any local rice available.

He said such allegations are either overboard or lacking in intelligence. Rafizi urged Hawa to email him if she had a list of Malaysians who needed immediate help so that they didn’t die of starvation.

Elaborating, Hawa said the parody page which called itself Harakatdaily (after PAS mouthpiece Harakah Daily) was riding on the Islamist party’s popularity.

Hawa further slammed netizens for attacking her without knowing who bought the luxury bag for her and for what occasion.

“The most important thing is the buyer did not use taxpayers’ money.”
