Sabah Harapan hasn't decided to use GRS logo in state polls

Sabah Pakatan Harapan chairperson Christina Liew indicated that it might be premature to decide whether her coalition will use the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) logo for the next state election.

The Api-Api assemblyperson said collaborating with other parties or using a shared logo is a “back matter” and will be considered later.

“We are open to working with anybody when the time comes. But to me, it is too early for Harapan to consider this.

“Right now, we may consider any option, but this is subject to finalisation by all parties concerned. I am sure we will eventually arrive at a most winnable solution,” she said in a statement last night.

Liew was asked if Harapan was open to GRS deputy chairperson Jeffrey Kitingan’s suggestion last week that all parties working with GRS should use the same logo in the state election.

The next Sabah polls must be held by Dec 9, 2025.

Liew, who is also the Api-Api PKR division chief, pointed out that her party used its own logo in the last state election.

In the 2020 Sabah election, Harapan was part of an electoral pact led by Warisan.

It saw DAP and Amanah contesting under the Warisan logo, while PKR and Upko used their own party symbols.

They competed against the GRS alliance - which at the time consisted of Sabah Perikatan Nasional, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), and BN, which contested using their respective logos, and ended up winning the state election.

After the 15th general election, Sabah PN fell apart, with those aligned to Chief Minister Hajiji Noor taking over GRS and aligning the coalition with Anwar Ibrahim, following which Harapan was made part of the Sabah government.

Stable govt to serve people better

Yesterday, Liew commended GRS chairperson Hajiji’s statement that the GRS-Harapan coalition has the strength to develop further and serve the state.

Hajiji was quoted by the New Straits Times as saying last week that his coalition is open to collaborating with as many parties as possible to ensure the state’s continued development.

Liew echoed the importance of good governance and a stable government to serve the public better.

“The people want stability so that we can focus on economic growth for the state. We want every sector, including tourism and industrial development, to continue growing.

“The government needs to provide a stable government to attract potential investments and boost the economy.

“What is important is how we can best serve the people. That’s why I keep saying that we focus now on serving the people irrespective of what party they are from,” she said.
