Lip Eng wants cops to probe Tuan Ibrahim's Malays 'buruk sangka' remarks

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has lodged a police report against PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man for making racist remarks.

This is after Tuan Ibrahim remarked that when Chinese or Indians speak their mother tongues, Malays would buruk sangka (have bad assumptions).

“His statement is not only inaccurate but is also racist and could potentially divide Malaysia’s multiracial society,” Lim (above) said in his police report which was shared with the media.

He called on police to investigate the remarks, especially under Sections 504 and 505(c) of the Penal Code for intentional insults that can break the peace and statements conducive to public mischief that incite communities against each other.

Tuan Ibrahim made the remarks on Wednesday night at a press conference in Temerloh, Pahang after officiating the PAS Youth muktamar.

While commenting on racial harmony, the PAS number two said that one major factor dividing the people was distrust, which he claimed was exacerbated by language divides.

“One factor causing suspicions is language, so we must make Bahasa Malaysia the intermediary language.

“If each race speaks their own language, there will be buruk sangka (bad assumptions), because ‘I don’t understand what they’re saying’.

“When Chinese speak Chinese, Malays don’t understand so there will be bad assumptions. (The same goes when) Indians speak Indian,” he said.
