Zahid dismisses Azmin's dare to form BN-Harapan govt in Johor

MAHKOTA BY-ELECTION | Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has dismissed Perikatan Nasional information chief Azmin Ali’s dare for BN to form a coalition government with Pakatan Harapan in Johor.

Asked for comments, all Zahid said on the matter was, “I don’t know him (Azmin).”

He was on a working visit to Kem Mahkota, one of the largest military camps in Johor.

Yesterday, Azmin asked Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi whether Umno will establish a government similar to the federal administration in the state if it wins the Mahkota by-election.

Otherwise, people might perceive Umno as insincere, he said to reporters at a PN ceramah last night.

All 11 of Johor’s state executive council members are from BN, a stark contrast to the federal cabinet which includes ministers from Harapan and BN.

However, unlike the federal administration, the Johor chapters of BN and Harapan have not entered into a formal alliance.

On Sept 28, Mahkota voters will choose PN’s Haizan Jaafar or Kluang Umno Youth chief Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah as their representative.

This by-election was called following the death of incumbent assemblyperson Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.
