GISBH memes show M'sians' creativity - Fahmi

The proliferation of satirical content on social media regarding the investigation into Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) highlights Malaysians’ creative ingenuity, said Fahmi Fadzil.

Asked if the videos would be taken down, the communications minister said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would only act if the police wanted it.

“This proves that Malaysians are very creative. MCMC has not informed me of any actions taken regarding GISBH.

“In terms of censorship, MCMC would usually direct social media platforms to remove content at the request of the police,” he told a press conference at the Communications Ministry in Putrajaya.

Following the GISBH controversy, TikTok users have been creating parodies using a song by the group called “Pasar Ikhwan di Putrajaya”.

One popular parody changes a line in the song from “Abuya seorang yang teliti, sudah tentulah PBT” to “Abuya seorang yang teliti, sudah tentulah skibidi..”

“Skibidi” is a slang popular with younger generations. It has no single meaning and can be used in different ways depending on the situation.

Urban Dictionary describes it as a wacky adjective that can mean cool, bad, or silly.

On Sept 11, police rescued 402 children and teenagers from 20 charitable homes allegedly linked to GISBH in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, who were suspected of being victims of labour and sexual exploitation.

The police operation dubbed Op Global uncovered cases of neglect and abuse, leading to the arrest of several individuals connected to GISBH.
