Pahang PAS urges Madani leaders to emulate Sanusi's humility

Pahang PAS said federal government leaders should emulate Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor who pleaded for forgiveness from Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Pahang PAS deputy commissioner, Andansura Rabu, said Sanusi should be praised for being willing to humble himself and beg for forgiveness from the sultan.

Asserting that Sanusi is human and not immune to mistakes, Andansura said a leader must be open to criticism and be wise in dealing with issues prudently.

Thus, he said other leaders should emulate Sanusi’s actions.

“This kind of thing should be used as an example to any individual who holds a high position in a government, whether at the federal or state level,” he said as quoted by Harakahdaily.

Andansura, who is also the Beserah assemblyperson, said that by following Sanusi’s steps, other leaders can also be role models and manage the country more carefully.

Sanusi on Wednesday (Sept 25) publicly apologised to Sultan Sharafuddin. This came 14 months after his speech at an election campaign which contained “disrespectful” remarks.

The apology was also a day before the case management of his related sedition charge.

On July 18 last year, Sanusi claimed trial to two charges at the Sessions Court in Selayang, Selangor.

Sanusi’s initial statement on July 11, 2023 - made in Selayang while on the Selangor election campaign trail - incurred the wrath of the palace and also saw more than 20 police reports lodged against him, including by the Selangor Royal Council.

Sultan Sharafuddin yesterday issued a statement pardoning Sanusi, but also advised the senior PAS politician to be more mindful and not be too emotional.

‘Sanusi is a good example’

Commenting further, Andansura said a good leader will take criticisms as an opportunity for self-improvement.

Claiming that qualities shown by Sanusi are lacking from the leaders of the federal government, he said those leaders instead considered criticisms to be personal attacks.

“No humility is shown when they themselves make mistakes and this is different from what the Kedah menteri besar did recently.

“We all have to admit that humans are not perfect in all things and, for me, any constructive criticism should be taken by the government as an opportunity to correct the situation in this country,” he said.

Meanwhile, Selangor PAS Youth also praised Sanusi’s actions.

Its information chief Abdul Basith Abdul Halim said Sanusi is a good example to all parties.

He also asserted that there are no perfect humans on earth except the prophets and messengers.

“So, lucky for those who are aware of the mistake and try to improve themselves,” he added.
