Road bully: Cops nab suspect who ran over driver's foot

Police have arrested a 26-year-old car spare parts dealer suspected of involvement in an Oct 6 road bully incident in Shah Alam, which was caught on video and widely shared on social media.

Shah Alam district police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the suspect who fled the scene was arrested in Meru, Klang, yesterday, in a Toyoto Vios that he also drove on the night of the incident near Persiaran Kayangan, Shah Alam.

“The incident occurred at around 9.45pm while the victim was on the way home with his family when a Toyota Vios driven recklessly by the suspect approached him.

“The suspect stopped his car suddenly in front of the victim’s car,” he added.

The suspect then got out of the car and accosted the 49-year-old victim who remained in his Volkswagen, together with his wife and daughter.

“The suspect knocked on the driver’s window. He also tried and failed to grab the car key after the driver opened the door.

“When the victim exited the car, a verbal altercation erupted,” Iqbal added.

The suspect then re-entered his car and attempted to run over the victim.

“The incident’s motive was due to the suspect’s unhappiness when his car was blocked by the victim’s car while switching into the left lane from Bulatan Kayangan Seksyen 10 towards Seksyen 7, Shah Alam,” he said.

Victim suffers minor injury

According to police, the victim dodged the first attempt to run him over but the suspect, who tested positive for benzodiazepine, tried again.

“The victim fell, and his right foot was run over. The suspect then fled the scene,” Iqbal said, adding that the victim suffered a minor fracture and received outpatient treatment at Shah Alam Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 and Section 279 of the Penal Code, the first carries a maximum 20-year jail sentence and fine, while the second up to six months prison and RM2,000 fine.
