Altantuya murder, deaf driver assault: Hanipa looks for AG

Mohamed Hanipa Maidin has embarked on a mission to look for Attorney-General Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh.

The former deputy law minister is concerned that there are questions, which if unanswered, that could jeopardise the Attorney-General Chambers’ (AGC) “mission and vision”.

Aside from the file on the assault of hearing-impaired e-hailing driver Ong Ing Keong, which has been sitting in Terrirudin’s office for months, the former Amanah MP said there is also the issue of Azilah Hadri’s additional affidavit on the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu which implicated several people, including former premier Najib Abdul Razak.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that the victim’s family had questioned the AG over the affidavit filed by the former police commando who was convicted of killing the Mongolian national in 2006 when Najib was the deputy prime minister.

Filed as part of his successful application to commute his death sentence to life imprisonment, the affidavit, which was unchallenged, claimed that Azilah had acted under “explicit instructions”.

“This is an important matter and requires an urgent answer,” Hanipa told Malaysiakini.

He had also raised this issue in his article last week, in which he asked if Umno still wanted to free Najib, who has denied any involvement in the murder, from prison.

Deafening silence and inaction

Elaborating on Terrirudin, Hanipa cited the “beautiful words” found on the AGC website with regard to its “noble mission and vision”.

“The mission and vision of the AGC is to become a world-class public legal organisation and to uphold the law and safeguard the interest of the nation by providing legal advice and service of the highest quality, efficiently, fairly and equitably in accordance with the constitution and law.

“As usual, such noble visions and missions are, with due respect, merely embodied in words but seemingly empty in actions,” he added.

Hanipa said the “deafening silence and inaction” created the perception that the AG “lacked the courage” to translate the AGC’s vision and mission into action.

Previously, Hanipa had also censured the delay in prosecuting the police officer who assaulted Ong outside a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on May 28.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reposted a Malaysiakini article on his social media which compared the injuries he sustained during incarceration in 1998 to Ong’s case.

Last month, the Pakatan Harapan chairperson came under fire for stating that certain cases took time when commenting on the delay in bringing the perpetrator in the assault case to justice.
