A businessperson detained by the MACC since Thursday over alleged bribery involving Selangor state investment arm Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) has been rearrested.

According to a source close to the investigation, the man was taken into custody again after his remand order for the first case expired earlier today.

“Investigators decided to rearrest the businessperson because they received information he might be involved in another corruption case.

“The second case is also connected to MBI, but involves another project under it,” said the MACC insider.

The suspect allegedly took bribes from another company after it successfully secured a contract related to MBI.

According to the source, MACC is still investigating if the second case has any connection to a prominent politician, whom they believe was involved in the other scandal.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki when contacted confirmed the rearrest, but declined to elaborate further.

Following the arrests of the businessperson and three other individuals, the MACC has raided at least three premises in the Klang Valley which they believe were used as safe houses to stash bribes for the unnamed politician.

Azam during a press conference yesterday confirmed the arrests and subsequent raids on the safe houses, and said that the agency had seized cash amounting to over RM5 million from the premises.
