Azam: MACC not 'James Bond' who can solve cases in one day

The Star reported the MACC chief commissioner as saying that his officers were still diligently tracking stock shares suspected to be linked to bribery.
“Such things (speedy probes) only happen in a movie. So, give us time to thoroughly investigate the case,” he said after attending the signing of a memorandum of understanding on improving governance between MACC and the Social Security Organisation (Socso) yesterday.
Bernama reported yesterday that the MACC has frozen assets worth millions of ringgit as part of its ongoing investigation over allegations of corruption involving sand mining concessions.
Azam said no new arrests have been made in the case.
Azam added that the MACC is investigating 20 other projects and expects to provide an update on the case within the next three to four days.
‘Safe houses’ raided
Last Thursday, two individuals - a former MBI senior executive and a businessperson - were arrested in connection to the investigation.
To date, MACC has raided nine premises and seized nearly RM6 million in cash, including RM5 million in foreign currency discovered at a residence.
Several investigation papers have been opened under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001.
Early this week, Malaysiakini reported that MACC had raided three “safe houses” linked to a senior politician in the Klang Valley.
As for the politician linked to the case, Azam said he would be summoned at the appropriate time for questioning.
“We have to collect all the necessary evidence (before calling the politician),” he added.
