Madani number plates fetch RM2.6m, with RM26k from '8481' auction

The auction of Madani number plates has fetched the government at least RM2.6 million, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

The sale caught attention after a bidding war over the plate “Madani 8481" as the number resembled babi (pig) when in capital letters.

Whether out of love for the animal or its meat or to spite the government, the winner of that bid is handing over RM26,666 for Putrajaya to spend, according to results reported by media outlet Cilisos.

Loke is expected to release a statement elaborating on the results of the Madani plate auction later today.

Proceeds from the sale would be used for government initiatives including MyLesen, the helmet exchange programme, FlySiswa, and Socso payments to taxi drivers.
