PBS to discuss role in GRS at 39th delegates conference

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) is expected to discuss its role as a key component of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) pact at state and federal levels at its two-day 39th delegates conference beginning Oct 28.

Berita Harian reported that PBS information chief Joniston Bangkuai said over 1,000 delegates are expected to focus on the party's cooperation with Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), on top of other current issues.

"(Delegates at) the conference will table several motions that touch on current issues and developments in Sabah.

"Discussions are also expected to touch on PBS' role as a main component of GRS, and its cooperation with Star," said the Kiulu assemblyperson.

According to Joniston (above), Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, who is also GRS chairperson, will launch the main conference on Tuesday while acting PBS president Dr Joachim Gunsalam will launch the party's women and youth wings conference.

The GRS pact was formed in September 2020 after the last 16th state election, with PBS and Star being among the earliest components.

Leading up to the next 17th state election, GPS comprise eight parties with the addition of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat); United Sabah National Organisation (Usno); Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP); Liberal Democratic Party; Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS); and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).

The pact is also in an alliance with BN and Pakatan Harapan, with reported ongoing discussions on seat allocations.
