PARLIAMENT | Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today hit out at claims by the opposition that he had violated the principles of good governance in the distribution of contracts.

Specifically, Anwar responded to Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh (PN-Pasir Puteh), who claimed that a company belonging to Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Independent-Bukit Gantang) had secured a government contract after the former PN MP crossed over from the opposition bench.

“I heard the speech from Pasir Puteh MP earlier, claiming that the finance minister did not adhere to good governance in awarding contracts to D’Saji and Bukit Gantang MP’s company. This is completely untrue.

“I’m the one who signed it, I know,” stressed Anwar, who is also finance minister.

“Where did you hear this? From TikTok? From WhatsApp? When talking about Islam, you refer to the Quran, yet when criticising something, you don’t even care to get your facts straight,” he said during Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.

Earlier, Nik Zawawi had questioned Anwar on the necessary mechanism and audit process to ensure transparency in the implementation of targeted RON95 subsidy and individual income tax relief.

Yesterday, Nik Zawawi, in his debate on the Supply Bill 2025, cited a purported WhatsApp conversation between Syed Hussin and an unnamed officer regarding the award of a tender to supply food for Malaysian Armed Forces personnel.

The PAS lawmaker further claimed that a portion of the purported message said, “Datuk’s part is also there”, implying an element of corruption or abuse of power in the tender process.
