Coalition govt can win next GE, parties discussing future cooperation: PM

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim believes the unity government’s current formula can sustain its popularity and win them another term in the next general election.

He reportedly said in an interview that the parties that form the federal administration are also talking about furthering their cooperation into the next parliamentary term.

“For now, things are a bit settled, it’s politically stable. I think the coalitions are working together and I think we are talking even beyond this term of office.

“If we remain tough and consistent with our policies, then I believe we will get the mandate to proceed,” he said, as quoted by news portal Free Malaysia Today this morning.

The portal held an exclusive interview with Anwar at the Prime Minister’s Office recently.

According to the report, the premier also said that the country “would augur very well” if it continues with the administration of the day.

The coalition government was formed after no single political party or coalition got the majority of Dewan Rakyat seats in the 2022 general election.

It saw the Pakatan Harapan coalition led by Anwar striking a cooperation with BN, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, Warisan, Parti Bangsa Malaysia and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Malaysia.

The Muhyiddin Yassin-led Perikatan Nasional, which consists of Bersatu, PAS and Gerakan, among others, became the opposition when they decided not to join the coalition government, which idea was proposed by then-Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
