Gobind fails to get re-elected to Selangor DAP committee

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo has failed to get re-elected to Selangor DAP's 15-member committee in internal polls today.

Gobind - the previous term's Selangor DAP chairperson - is the only party minister who failed to be elected into a state committee this year.

When met by reporters after the results were announced, the Damansara MP was, however, gracious in his defeat.

"As far as I'm concerned, I congratulate all of them and... whatever it is I can do to assist, I will help," he said.

Gobind also appeared to reject any offer to be co-opted into the committee.

His defeat in the state party polls today came despite DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke telling delegates that he wished the Selangor committee to be a multiracial one that included a “Singh”, referring to a Punjabi.

There were no Punjabis elected among the 15-member committee.

Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin topped the polls with 1,180 votes.

Most of the committee members elected were federal or state lawmakers.

The committee later elected Sze Han as the new Selangor DAP chairperson, with Ganabatirau as deputy.

Suee Lim and Ean Yong are vice-chairpersons while Yeo is the Selangor DAP secretary.
