No reason to delay appointment of DBKL councillors: MP

PARLIAMENT | Lim Lip Eng (Harapan- Kepong) urged the government to reform the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and allow the appointment of local councillors into the local authority.

He said the government has no excuse to postpone the matter as every state in Malaysia is already doing so.

“Every state in Malaysia, from big to small, has been appointing councillors (in their local councils) except for Kuala Lumpur.

“I feel there is no reason for us to not implement this,” Lim said when debating the Supply Bill 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat.

At the Federal Territories DAP Convention held last month, Tan Kok Wai (Harapan-Cheras) proposed appointing councillors in DBKL as a first step towards broader reform.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, who was present at the event, called it a sound and progressive approach.

However, Loke said the matter would be brought to the Pakatan Harapan leadership council for discussion before proceeding with any further actions in the government.

FashionValet scandal

Touching on FashionValet Sdn Bhd, Lim asked why no officials from Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Permodalan Nasional Berhad had been questioned over the matter.

“Why didn’t the MACC call Khazanah and PNB officials for questioning? FashionValet suffered losses for five consecutive years before both GLCs stepped in to make investments.

“It’s obvious the investments didn’t make sense… even a school kid would advise against it (making the investment),” he added.

On Nov 6, the MACC froze several private and company bank accounts belonging to the founders of FashionValet worth RM1.1 million under Op Favish.

These involve 11 private accounts and six company accounts.

According to a source, the MACC had also recorded statements from several individuals - including senior staffers from Khazanah, PNB, FashionValet, accountants, a company appraiser, and an introducer earlier.
