Pahang PN rep wants govt action in delayed Felda housing project

A Pahang Perikatan Nasional lawmaker has called on the state government to address delays in Felda housing projects that have been stalled for nearly two years.

Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today, Kuala Sentul assemblyperson Jasri Jamaluddin revealed that the delays have caused contractors to incur losses exceeding RM30 million.

“These Felda New Generation Housing Projects (PGBF) span 10 Felda settlements in Pahang, involving 1,850 houses priced at RM120,000 each, with a total estimated value of RM220 million.

“I have raised this issue repeatedly, including during state assembly sessions. While Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail assured us the matter would be resolved promptly, no action has been taken to date,” he told the media.

Jasri (above) attributed the project delays to shortcomings by state-appointed developers and advised Felda’s second-generation buyers to reconsider purchasing homes under the scheme.

The affected settlements include Felda 1, Jengka 6, Jengka 12, Keratong, Bukit Sagu, Sungai Retang, and Bukit Tajau.

‘Guarantee deposits’

Meanwhile, contractor representative Syahfrilhaidi Abdul Rahman disclosed that legal action had been taken against the developer.

Representing companies such as Mental Construction Sdn Bhd, TNL Asset Sdn Bhd, Medan Kembara AAY Sdn Bhd, and three others, Syahfrilhaidi alleged that the developer collected guarantee payments as a prerequisite for awarding letters of acceptance.

“The developer demanded guarantee deposits between RM50,000 and RM520,000.

“However, the projects were mismanaged with a lack of transparency and accountability, leading to contract terminations and work disruptions that caused us substantial financial losses.

“In some instances, we were instructed to commence work at sites without proper planning permissions,” he said during the press conference.

Malaysiakini is awaiting responses from the relevant state executive councillors and developers on the matter.
