Akmal's call for Tiong's dismissal not BN Youth's stand: MIC counterpart

Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s statement calling for the dismissal of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing does not reflect the collective stance of BN Youth, according to the MIC Youth.

MIC Youth chief Arvind Krishnan suggested that the statement may have been a personal opinion from Akmal, who is also the Umno Youth chief and a member of the Malacca state executive council.

Speaking to Malaysiakini, Arvind said that BN Youth has never adopted the position Akmal expressed.

“Akmal’s statement is not BN Youth’s position. It could just be his personal opinion,” said Arvind.

A few days ago, Akmal urged the prime minister to dismiss Tiong following a disagreement between the two concerning the tourism minister’s apology to Chinese tourists.

Tiong had previously apologised to Chinese tourists who encountered unpleasant experiences while visiting Malaysia.

“I urge PMX (Anwar) to replace this minister with someone more capable. Might as well appoint the MP for Jelutong (RSN Rayer) as the tourism minister!” Akmal remarked in his statement.

Arvind emphasised that BN Youth had not held any meetings to discuss Tiong’s position in the cabinet.

“In fact, BN Youth has not convened any meetings for nearly 18 months,” he added.
