Pakistan PM calls Anwar to offer support over floods

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his sympathies and solidarity with Malaysians hit by floods.

In a call with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Shehbaz offered help with recovery efforts.

“Expressed deep admiration for the swift response of the Malaysian government to this natural calamity.

“We shall be immediately dispatching humanitarian assistance to Malaysia as a token of our solidarity,” Shehbaz said in a post on X.

“We also briefly discussed the next steps in Pakistan-Malaysia ties and agreed to continue working closely to further strengthen (mutually) beneficial cooperation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said his country is ready to extend support in the recovery effort.

“The people of Pakistan are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and destruction resulting from the devastating floods in Malaysia. Our heartfelt, sincerest sympathies and prayers are with the victims and their families,” Ishaq said.

Massive floods have displaced more than 120,000 people and caused significant damage to property in Malaysia’s northern states.

At least three people have been reported dead.
