Relocating SPM flood victims doesn't help them mentally - PAS tells govt

PAS Women has urged the government to postpone the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations as many students have been affected by floods.

The wing’s information chief Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad said the Education Ministry’s solution of relocating SPM students to government facilities where they can continue to prepare for and undertake the exams, is flawed.

“The government can prepare facilities and equipment but for sure the government can’t help with the mental preparation of exam candidates whose homes and families are affected by floods.

“Rescuers who are supposed to be saving people from floods are also being used to bring SPM students to government facilities to take exams,” she said in a statement last night.

SPM examinations begin today and will last until Dec 6.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek had said that the exams will continue as usual even in flood-hit states.

According to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), nine states are experiencing floods, as of this morning.

As of 9.30am, more than 137,000 people remain displaced and six people have been killed so far.
